my book world edition twonky
I found the relevant lines for those odd services in the init file and set their values to 0, I believe these services are only useful for the online twonky features. One other thing, after a reboot and having backed up the old startup file and copied over the new one I found I had both versions of Twonky running. I have removed the execute rights from the .old file that has stopped both versions loading.
In fact twonkyserver does not stop. Mediaserver.pid does not exist in the /var/run directory. I think this is due to a name change in the process from mediaserver to twonkyserver at some stage. My old version (5) ran as mediaserver iirc.
I then went through, and repeated the second half of the steps, making sure that I tried the killall twonky* command, but killall didn't find those two files, and they reappeared in the same error message when I started the new server again.
I don't know how to edit an INI file from the SSH interface, as JHaunton did, but I'd be very appreciative it if you could walk me through this process, or help me figure out how to shut down twonkywebdav and twonkyproxy while I'm doing the install, and make sure they don't resurface.
I really need some help. I updated twonky on my WD Mybook ages ago and it all worked fine, but as of last wednesday, suddenly, I cant find the twonky server anymore. Logging in using putty and attempting to start the service, it says twonky is already running, but I still cant find it. I tried stopping and starting twonky, rebooting the NAS, reinstalling twonky, but so far, nothing. As far as I know, nothing has been changed firewall wise. Anyone any ideas what I can do to fix it?
Currently I'm in a mess as I cleaned up and obviously deleted some important files. When accessing through webinterface I can't get through (can't Access page).stopping/starting twonky indicates that mediaserver.pid can't be found.I tried to work through this threat but didn't find a solution. Is there somewhere a list of all necessary files and folders to run a specific twonky version? Or to do a full new Installation?Rolf
Nice job in compiling this instructions, I just finished updating my twonky to 7.2.8.A little trail and error but it worked nonetheless.I'm now enjoying the 30 day trail version and will be buying a license after that.
Unfortunately I upgraded my media server using another guide (found some weeks ago on this forum), so my directory structure is slightly different. For example I created a twonky7 folder and edit with nano a file (I don't remember which) to make the server point to the other folder.
I've been running twonky7 for a while now, but after a re-boot this weekend, I couldn't get T7 to start up. I had been having some problems getting T7 to work with my Samsung TV (my Denon AVR receiver was happy with it), so I was thinking about reverting back to T6.
I'm finding that I am no longer getting multiple instances of Twonky running after renaming "/twonky" to "/twonky.old", which has essentially hidden a lot of old executable files. Twonky7 has now created a new /twonky directory to store whatever it likes and this has stabilized performance a lot.
However, I still have a problem with running out of space in my "/var" directory. Every now and then I have to go in and delete most of the contents of "/var/twonky/TwonkyServer/db" to create disk space in the "/var" directory and Twonky happily restarts. Can't figure out why that directory has a space limit. Seems odd.
Followed the instructions and everything seems to work somehow, but:- Streaming start to my WDTVLIVE is very slow.- If I list the processes in Mybook there is multiple processes "twonkyserver"Is this how it should be?
Jeg fandt så din vejledning her, og fandt videre en guide der passer til den My Book jeg har: -459592/complete-guide-to-upgrade-to-twonky-7-version-my-book-live-oHar prøvet flere gange at taste koderne ind, men kan simpelhen ikke få det til at virke.Det vil ikke installeres. Æv! ?
how can I configure the media server, I have a Samsung LE40A859 and with this installed media server I cannot fast forward the movie, the option isn't show, with other DLNA media server, I didn't have this problem (twonky on windows, Serviio and Samsung Share Manager).
Josh, I realize you just copied and pasted your spew about Twonky not supporting NAS and that we have the latest version available but I dont think that is necessarily true. There is another more recent version that supports everything the Buffalo customers are asking for but the only way to get it is to manually install the twonky update which means we would need to hack into our Buffalo products which of course voids all warranties. My quesiton is: Why doesnt Buffalo get that updated software from Twonky, add it to a firmware udpate and make all its customers happy?
Shonky, there are a few things that Twonky 5 can do that 4 can't. I agree with you, that we need to get his updated. If for what ever reason Buffalo doesn't want to spend the money to update it (buy new licenses) then it should at least give the users the option of updating it themselves. As far as I know the only to update to the newer version is to hack into the NAS and I tried and it was not easy, I couldn't figure it out. As far as I know all they would need to do is open telnet on the NAS and the rest is done by the twonky installer. I would love to see MP4 support, Album Artwork, and a more reliable media server. All these seem to be the case with Twonky 5. I undertand the new Word Book II is shipping with twonky 5 already on it. They must have worked out some deal...
You could also just purchase the latest version of Twonky and install it on a computer that can always be on and stream using the computer installed twonky with the NAS as your media location. That should work with your tv. You could even use Windows Media player to stream if you want a free solution. 2ff7e9595c
